General Questions

There are a number of ways to help preserve the freshness and quality of your sour cream or cottage cheese, including, but not limited to, the following stay-fresh tips:

  • Refrigerate the product as soon as possible after purchasing.
  • Always use a clean utensil and avoid touching the inside of the container’s plastic lid to help maintain the quality of the product.
  • After spooning out what you need, promptly return the remaining portion to the refrigerator.
  • To prevent the separation of whey from the product, smooth the surface of the product flat with a spoon just prior to placing it back in the refrigerator.
  • After initial opening, remove the foil seal from the package completely and use the plastic lid to reseal.
  • If the product is used infrequently, some natural separation might occur. Simply stir gently to blend it back together.

As a general guideline, you can expect the product to stay fresh for approximately two weeks after opening the container. By smelling, tasting, and looking at the appearance, you can use your best judgment to ensure the product’s freshness.

The date following “Best By” on the package indicates when Daisy Brand products will exhibit optimal flavor and quality attributes. “Best By” is not a purchase-by or safety date. If the product is stored under recommended conditions and exhibits no off odors or visible mold, it should be safe to consume past the date on the container.

Yes, our tub plastic containers are recyclable. Daisy Brand uses polypropylene #5 for the tube containers because it is more suitable than other plastics for maintaining the quality of our products. Facilities that recycle polypropylene in your area might be limited. Please reference “recycling” in the yellow pages or contact the Department of Public Works in your town or county to see if facilities are available. The cap of the squeeze packaging is recyclable (5 Polypropylene – same as the Daisy tubs). The film of the squeeze packaging, however, is currently not recyclable in most areas but we feel that it will be widely accepted in the future.

We periodically make coupons available in the markets where our products are sold. Be on the lookout for savings in your area!

Daisy Brand Sour Cream and Cottage Cheese should always be kept refrigerated. They will best maintain quality if stored on the lower shelves of the refrigerator. We do not recommend storing Daisy Brand products in the vegetable drawers of the door of your fridge.

Please avoid freezing your sour cream and cottage cheese, as it can adversely affect the creamy texture and all-natural flavor of the product. However, you may use Daisy Brand Sour Cream and Cottage Cheese in a pre-prepared dish and freeze the prepared item.

Yes, our sour cream and cottage cheese are milk-based products. The production machinery is only used to run milk-based products.

The best-by and Julian dates can be found on the bottom of the cups and in the seams of the squeeze packaging.

If the Daisy Brand container has been refrigerated and sealed, it is generally safe to consume past the “Best By” date on the package unless there is evidence of spoilage. If the product has an off odor or visible mold, it should be discarded and not consumed. Because of the perishable nature of Daisy Brand products, it is best to consume within 2 weeks of opening even if the “Best By” date is in the future.

When milk and cream are cultured and become Sour Cream or Cottage Cheese, the once liquid milk and cream become semi-solid. The water, from milk or cream, is trapped. The watery portion of cultured products, like Sour Cream, is called “whey.” Whey contains water, minerals, and some protein, which makes it very nutritious. While scooping our delicious Sour Cream and Cottage Cheese, some whey can be released and form puddles on the surface. When whey separates from Sour Cream or Cottage Cheese, stir it back into the product or pour it out – it’s your choice – there is no wrong answer! Store Sour Cream and Cottage Cheese containers upright in the refrigerator and smooth the surface to prevent whey from separating.

Our products are made with milk from cows not treated with the growth hormone rBST. No significant difference has been shown between milk derived from rBST-treated cows and non-rBST-treated cows.

All Daisy products are gluten free.
